A Stubbed Toe

A story involving a useless alarm clock, an oversleep, a panicked rush, a hastily packed case, a broken zip, a stubbed toe, an almost disastrous stumble on the front step, a stalled car which seems deliberately provoking, a maddening wait at the traffic lights, a horrible moment of forgetfulness, a self-reassurance that the front door was locked, a constant revisiting of the same worry, a sickening moment of remembrance, the briefcase lying by the front door, and a curse: bugger.
